- How do we reduce the amount of pollution that cargo ships/vessels produce during their wait to unload the cargo?
I am interested in learning about the process cargo ships goes through when entering a port for unloading their cargo. My main focus is to see how much pollution they emit and how that could be reduced.
Junior:
1. How many cargo ships exist in the world?
2. How many containers are shipped a year?
3. How much does a cargo ship cost? And per day?
4. What is being done today to prevent pollution of cargo ships?
5. What shipping companies are doing something against pollution?
6. How many people are affected by pollution from industrial ships? And who?
7. What is the future of cargo ships?
8. What is the future of goods transportation?
9. How many cargo ships are affected by piracy?
10. How does pirates get on board cargo ships?
11. What is being done to prevent pirates to come onboard?
12. What about those 10.000 containers that gets lost every year?
13. Is anyone trying to find them?
14. What is the reason they fall over board?
15. Does it matter that we lose 10.000 out of 100 million?
16. Where is the “typical” place/situation containers get lost?
17. How much sun (shine) does it take to make a Kwh.
18. What exist on land similar to what could be implemented on a ship?
19. How much fuel is a cargo ship burning from port to port?
20. What is the difference between bunker fuel and regular fuel?
Philip,
ReplyDeleteI love that you are starting to think about pirates. This is a huge problem that will probably get worse, because currently there is very little downside for the pirates. Companies would rather pay the ransom then have their ships stolen or employees killed, so they pay, usually by dropping containers of cash from aircraft. The guys that are doing it have no other skills or job prospects, so it is impossible to get rid of them. If you could figure out a way to reduce piracy, you would be very successful. I'm not sure how this fits in with your interest in reducing fuel consumption when container ships are idling. Unless you have a specific technology in mind.....
I am just curious if my capstone project (thesis) question is to specific?
ReplyDelete- but we can talk about it in class..
