One of my interest for the thesis topic is schizophrenia.
Although many people suffer from this illness, its causes & treatments are still yet-to-be-defined.
"In a 1999 study of 14 countries, active psychosis was ranked the third-most-disabling condition after quadriplegia and dementia and ahead of paraplegia and blindness. And the proportion of individuals expected to experience the disease at any time in their lives—is commonly given at 1%."
My initial idea for the project goal would be to utilize design strategies to find a way to support patients rehabilitation into society.
Toshi, it is interesting that the age of onset of this disease is so consistent. Do you think it has anything to do with the stage in life that people in their 20's? Is it genetic or a combination of environment and genes? how could a product contribute to the reintroduction of these patients into their former lives, considering the trauma they have recently undergone. By the way, designing products for use by people who are homicidal or suicidal requires great care, so that users cannot convert into a weapon or to injure themselves. Should be an interesting adventure.
