Future of Screen Technology
This is the result of TAT's Open Innovation experiment. It is an experience video showing the future of screen technology with stretchable screens, transparent screens and e-ink displays, to name a few.
I love this, Jackie. This is exactly what I am talking about when I say we should be designing for five years in the future. If we know that this technology is coming, then now is the moment to develop imaginative and practical devices and media that take advantage of these new things. I also think that one of the best ways to explore these possibilities is through speculative fiction that considers near future scenarios. One such book that deals explicitly with the kinds of wireless display concepts presented in the video you posted is called Eastern Standard Tribe, by the author Cory Doctorow. You can download that book in multiple formats for free at http://craphound.com/est/download.php.
You can also find the book to buy at Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/Eastern-Standard-Tribe-Cory-Doctorow/dp/0765310457/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1291947380&sr=8-1
If you like this technology, you will love this book.
I am also wondering if this kind of technology could be used to accomplish your ambitions for making a new product that helps kids become more aware and knowledgeable about sustainability issues. I would be very supportive of your developing a product like this, even if the technology that you employ is not yet available on the market, but appears to be likely to emerge soon. Please let me know if you would like help researching this possibility. steven
